Irobot Roomba 960 Reviews

The Roomba 960 is a high-end robot vacuum from the 900 series from iRobot. Launched in 2016, this connected model cleans with the AeroForce vacuum system, and moves smarter than the 800 series.

Sound level : <70 dB Weight : 3.9 kg
Collector capacity : 0.6L Battery warranty : 6 months
Diameter : 35 cm Manufacturer’s warranty : 2 years
Height : 9.1 cm Threshold height : 2 cm

Operation:

The Roomba 960 is a 2016 novelty from iRobot, a version a little less expensive than the flagship model of the brand, the Roomba 980. The design remains similar to that of the previous ranges, with a circular shape, and a simplified facade since a smartphone application now allows the robot to be controlled via a WiFi link. The Clean button allows you to start cleaning, the Home button to return to the charging base, and the Spot button (target) to clean a deeper area.

For cleaning, the Roomba 960 uses the AeroForce system , which was already fitted to the models of the 800 series. A side brush is used to bring the dust located in the corners and along the walls to 2 counter-rotating brushes , which collect the dust, hairs animals, hair… and store them in the dust container .

Aeroforce cleaning system Roomba 960

The role of the 2 rubber brushes is to loosen the dirt and bring it up to the suction level, the flow of which is concentrated between the 2 brushes for more efficiency. The brushes are anti-tangling for easy maintenance. The high-power motor used is compact and provides high suction power.

To move around, the Roomba 960 uses an intelligent movement system ( iAdapt 2 ), the same one that equips the Roomba 980. It consists of associating linear movements with mapping and visual location thanks to integrated sensors, in particular a camera. placed in the center of the robot and inclined at 30 °, to see both the room and the furniture. Movements are therefore no longer random, which significantly improves the efficiency of the robot, even if its autonomy has decreased compared to the models of the 800 series equipped with XL batteries.

Infrared sensors and a tactile bumper allow the robot to detect and avoid obstacles smoothly, without risk of damaging them. Six vacuum sensors are provided to prevent accidental falls down the stairs ( Cliff Detect function ).

The function Dirt Detect 2 automatically detects dirtier areas (by means of an acoustic sensor and two optical sensors) and spend more time on it.

The autonomy is 75 minutes , knowing that the robot is able to return to its base to recharge and resume work where it left off. This autonomy is much less than that of Roomba 980, which is 2 hours.

The Roomba 960 can adapt the height of its suspensions to the type of floor, to maintain maximum efficiency on any type of floor.

Specificity of this connected model: the iRobot HOME application allows you to control the robot remotely (with a WiFi connection), and to know where it is in its cleaning (as well as the filling level of the dust container!) .

Control with HOME app Roomba 960

The application allows you to program a delayed start (up to 7 times a week), for example so that Roomba starts automatically while you are at work. It can also be used to create cleaning plans. However, it is not possible to directly control the robot.

The tank is fitted with a HEPA filter : the air rejected by the robot vacuum cleaner is therefore free of allergens and fine particles. It is easy to remove, and it is closed, which avoids releasing dust when handling it: a good point. An indicator light warns when the dust container is full and needs to be emptied.

The virtual walls (2 supplied) can be used either to temporarily prevent access to certain zones (a room for example), or to protect a “halo” zone (radius approximately 60 cm) around the virtual wall, for example to protect the bowl and litter from pets. Additional virtual walls can be purchased separately, for around $ 80 both.

There is always a carrying handle on the top to easily transport the robot.

Customers’ opinion

This vacuum cleaner allows you to do a thousand and one things while it vacuums the whole house and it is even possible to launch it via an application on your phone when you are outside. Installed application that works fine. It even tells us the number of m2 cleaned and the time it took for each use.

If you are not a fan of applications, its operation is nevertheless very simple since it suffices to press the clean button twice to launch the program. When it is finished, it returns to its base on its own and a trash can icon flashes when the bin needs to be emptied.

Very simple and practical explanatory guide to know everything about your vacuum cleaner and see how to clean it and when. Much less noisy than a conventional vacuum cleaner, it works very well and combs every inch of the house it has access to.

If a staircase presents itself in front of him, he detects it and turns around so as not to fall. To summarize, excellent vacuum cleaner but its price is not affordable for everyone. In addition, it is advisable to pass a conventional vacuum cleaner in the corners where it could not go such as behind the doors and under the sofa if it does not allow it to pass under.

This is the first robot vacuum cleaner I use. Well, he’s adopted! The noise level is more than reasonable, less noisy than a conventional vacuum cleaner.

The cleaning is effective, the vacuum cleaner proceeds in parallel bands, moving slowly enough to suck up the dirt in its path. By default, it passes twice in small rooms and once in large rooms, but you can modify this setting so that it always passes once, or even twice systematically. Thus, it took 50 minutes to vacuum an area of 45 m2 not simple, with tables, chairs, armchairs … and for an impeccable result, both on tiles, on parquet or even carpet! I must say that I am amazed by the result on the carpet!

When the waste collection container is full, the appliance automatically stops its cycle and returns to its base. A small indicator light flashes and the application on the mobile phone (exists in ios version and in android version) sends us a notification.

Because this device can be controlled entirely from a distance! The application is easy to use and provides aids for emptying the drip tray, maintaining the robot, etc.

We can program the vacuum cleaner so that it passes on the days and at the time of our choice.
Alas, but logically, it does not fit between the legs of my chairs… on the other hand, it goes around the legs of my armchairs!

Conclusion

The Roomba 960 is a high-end robot vacuum cleaner that offers excellent performance. In terms of cleaning, we find the same AeroForce 800 series system, which combines suction and the action of the rotating brushes. It is at the level of the movement system that the improvement is there most important, with finally an intelligent movement assisted by a camera: with less random and unnecessary movements, the robot is much faster in its cleaning.

The connected aspect and the use of an application is convenient, both to control the robot and to know where it is. This model is almost flawless, the main drawback being its very high price: let’s hope it drops quickly.

Irobot Roomba i7 Reviews

The Roomba i7156 is part of the new family of high-end i7 vacuum cleaners from the iRobot brand . It inherits the high performance of the 900 series, adding smarter travel and advanced mapping management.

Electric power : 30 W Full bin indicator : Yes
Autonomy : 75 mins Type of travel : Smart (1 camera)

Collector capacity : 0.4L Battery warranty : 6 months
Diameter : 35.3cm Manufacturer’s warranty : 2 years
Height : 9.2cm Threshold height : 2 cm

Operation:

The Roomba i7156 is part of Irobot’s new premium i7 family. The design is close to that of the 900 family, with a circular shape with a camera on the top, and a control which is done mainly with a smartphone application allowing to control the robot via a WiFi link. The Clean button allows you to start cleaning, the Home button to return to the charging base, and the Spot button (target) to clean a deeper area.

For cleaning, the Roomba i7156 uses the AeroForce system . This system uses 3 stages: a side brush is used to bring the dust located in the corners and along the walls to 2 counter-rotating brushes , which collect the dust, animal hair, hair… and store them in the dust container . The air then passes through a HEPA filter before being rejected so that the remaining fine dust is filtered.

The role of the 2 rubber brushes is to loosen the dirt and bring it up to the suction level, the flow of which is concentrated between the 2 brushes for more efficiency. The brushes are anti-tangling for easy maintenance. The high-power motor used is compact and provides high suction power.

To get around, the Roomba i7156 uses the new iAdapt 3 intelligent movement system . This program combines linear movements with cartography and visual localization thanks to integrated sensors, in particular a camera placed in the center of the robot and tilted at 30 °, to see both the room and the furniture. The movements are intelligent, which significantly improves the efficiency of the robot.

The strong point of the i7 family is to map and memorize the parts traversed, which saves time for the robot and allows it to be programmed more finely. The robot can retain up to 10 different places (floors for example).

The autonomy is 75 minutes , allows the robot to clean approximately 185 m². In addition, the robot is able to come back to recharge at its base, then resume work where it left off.

It is a connected model: the iRobot HOME application allows you to control the robot remotely (with a WiFi connection), and to know where it is in its cleaning (as well as the filling level of the dust container! ).

Roomba i7156 - HOME App

The application allows you to program an automatic launch of the robot every day, and also to choose which parts are cleaned using Smart Mapping technology (for example to only clean the kitchen on certain days!). It can also be used to create cleaning plans. However, it is not possible to directly control the robot. The information displayed (Clean Map report) is interesting: we thus find the time taken for cleaning, the map of the house, and even the dirty locations on which the robot had to use its spot mode! A notification can be sent to your phone when cleaning is complete.

The tank is fitted with a HEPA filter : the air rejected by the robot vacuum cleaner is therefore free of allergens and fine particles. It is easy to remove, and it is closed, which avoids releasing dust when handling it: a good point. An indicator light warns when the dust container is full and needs to be emptied (the container filling rate is also provided in the application).

The dust container is washable with water for easier maintenance.

The virtual wall (1 supplied) can be used either to temporarily prevent access to certain areas (a room for example), or to protect a “halo” area (radius approximately 60 cm) around the virtual wall, for example to protect the bowl and litter from pets. Additional virtual walls can be purchased separately, for around € 80 both.

Customers’ opinion

What impressed me the most with this robot is its way of going through the rooms methodically, going around the furniture legs, and following those placed directly on the ground, and especially to get out under the kitchen table despite the chair!

Nothing to do with my old robot who seemed to rely on chance.

He doesn’t have a problem with the low-pile living room rug: it’s crowded. Better, he manages to remove cat hair.

He is picky about cleaning corners, especially baseboards.

Suddenly, I had to tape the cables that ran along the walls with a Gaffer …

Selecting the parts to clean (or not) via the application is practical when you have left a painting site in abeyance …

The concept is really successful, the ideal would be for it to make less noise, but it is a vacuum cleaner…

In any case, it is an excellent robot vacuum cleaner!

I already had a Roomba 960 (which had replaced a particularly poor Rowenta and Ecovacs it must be said).

The 960 was already mapping the cleaned area and allowed remote monitoring of what had been cleaned.

This new 7156 does the same, but taking the technique even further: you can simply name the parts and choose which one to clean, even from a distance. It also comes with a virtual wall to protect certain areas, which is great for cleaning only the living room for example.

The iRobot application is particularly easy to use and allows easy configuration of the robot.
It must be recognized that everything is better than the 960, but in terms of efficiency it is equivalent. If the budget is tight, go on the 960 it’s almost as good.

In any case, Roomba’s are 1 million times better than the competition, so don’t hesitate!

Conclusion

The Roomba i7156 is a high-end robot vacuum cleaner that offers excellent cleaning performance, combined with intelligent movement, which makes it particularly efficient.

Able to return to base and then resume work where it left off, it can clean up to 185 m², which is usually sufficient! The recording of maps of the places visited and the ability to program it room by room allows tailor-made cleaning.

It is a very good model, with a fairly high price but more reasonable than for the 980 generation: you might as well take advantage of it!
